His grumpy grandfather Murdock harbors a grudge against Seth's Native American father, who died when Seth was a baby, and passes this grudge on to him. Seth's grandmother was fond of him, but she soon passes away. Seth struggles with his grandfather's harshness while trying to win the heart of the charming Annie Jacobs.
