Warat Bureephakdee is a 22-year-old filmmaker based in Bangkok. His work spans narrative cinema, experimental film, and documentary, drawing inspiration from history, contemporary politics, and the ways individuals and societies respond to change, particularly the struggles of younger generations across different eras in Thailand and beyond. He first gained recognition with works screened at Wildtype 2022, and has since received several directing awards, including the Special White Elephant Award at the 26th Thai Short Film and Video Festival (2022), Best Experimental Short Film at the 6th PRISM UBD Short Film Festival in Brunei (2023), an Honorable Mention from the Young Producer 2025 Pitching Session, and the Audience Award at the Amazing Stoner Movie Festival 2025. As a producer, his works have received accolades such as Best Student Short Film at the Chiang Mai Film Festival 2023, Best Short Screenplay at the Isan Creative Festival 2024, and a development grant from Content Lab: Newcomers 2024 for a feature film project co-developed with Koraphat Cheeradit and Hesome Chemamah. Most recently, the short film Ashes and Echoes (2026), which he produced, received a Special Mention with a supporting grant from THAI SHORT PITCHING 2025. The film was also part of Thai Short Film Lab 2025 and had its world premiere in the “In Uniform” program (Short and Mid-length section) at the 55th International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2026. He has participated in numerous workshops and programs, including the 6th Science Film Competition workshop Science Around Us: ฝ่าวิกฤตกับวิทย์รอบตัว (2021), Thairath Original Content x BUDC (2023), a screenwriting incubation program in the form of a writer’s room titled Make Ghost Turn to Movie by Neramitnung Film x BUDC (2023), Through the Lens of Climate by Chiang Rai Film Club (2023), Content Lab: Newcomers 2024, Incubator Lab by CutByCut Studio (2024), and คิดการใหญ่: Documentary Development (2024). He has also served as a moderator for “To Each Their Own Ghosts” at the Phantasmagoria exhibition and joined discussions such as “Grow from a Seed, Go with Micro Cinema” at Lumina Film Festival (2025), with additional experiences including the Direct Cinema Workshop with Ateliers Varan (2025), ฉาย!: Film Screening, Forum & Workshop (Talking—Cine 2025), Thai Short Film Lab (2025), and Platform BUSAN 2025. Currently, he organizes film screenings under the JuBchaii program, inspired by his experience with the Wildtype team. He has curated and hosted more than 20 screening programs, both at Bangkok University and in collaboration with students from various universities. After returning from a four-month exchange program at Dongseo University in Busan, he is currently developing his debut feature film, Can We Still Glow? (or Should We Do Something?), which explores the post-2020 political movement era in Thailand through the experiences and perspectives of a new generation. The project is currently in development and fundraising.
