Jimena Fernández is a costume designer, production designer, image designer, hairdresser and shoe designer. Born in Mexico City, she studied Haute Couture and Architecture in Guadalajara, Jalisco; then moved to New York City, where she studied fashion design with a specialty in footwear design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). She received a scholarship from the Instituto Tecnológico del Calzado in Guadalajara, Jaslico, and studied shoe pattern making. Back in her hometown, Mexico City, she studied with the set designer/architect Alejandro Luna for a set design and lighting diploma. Thus she entered into costume design for theatre, opera and film. Later, she studied makeup design in New York City and professional styling in Mexico City. Jimena has worked with directors such as Paul Leduc, Carlos Bolado, Lila Áviles, Benjamín Cann, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Ruby Tagle, among others. Nominated for the 66th Ariel Awards for Costume Design for the film Totem (2023).
